The SC-ADRC logo is inspired by all who struggle with Alzheimer’s disease and the challenges they and their families face.

Characteristics

  • The shape indicates the forget-me-not, the flower of Alzheimer's. Inside each “petal” is a silhouette of a different face, symbolizing the global and diverse impact of this disease.

  • The small circles represent the memory of loved ones and their struggles to “connect the dots”.

  • The logo has a solid circular motion reminiscent of a wheel or clock, showing the forward momentum of the ongoing research being conducted to develop a cure.

The artist

Kirsten Kelly was born and raised in Maryland. At a young age, her parents encouraged her to pursue an interest in drawing and painting. While in high school, she discovered a love for science, but she ultimately decided to study art education in college.

After receiving her degree from High Point University, she and her husband moved to Charleston, SC, where she worked in public education. After teaching for almost 10 years, she returned to her high school love, science, as a laboratory technician, where she combines her passion for both fields through illustrations for grants, presentations, and other laboratory projects.
